About Us

Bridge House, Dawlish is situated just over a mile from the sea front, train station and a short walk from the shops of this small and pleasant resort in South Devon. Here at Bridge House we pride ourselves on being a unique centre for people in need of physical and/or emotional recovery. It is the ideal place to come for a period of recuperation for example following surgery or to ‘get away from it all’ and escape the stresses of everyday life. All our duty managers are registered nurses and are on duty 24/7. Although they do NOT provide ‘hands on’ care the managers are there for advice, support and reassurance. If you have a carer at home you are welcome to bring them with you.

The centre has a 15 space private car park within the grounds. The spacious panelled main lounge, which has a bar, opens directly onto the garden and provides the venue for a variety of evening entertainment. There is also a quiet lounge on the first floor which enjoys views over the gardens and stream. Our stays are full board and home-cooked meals are served in the recently refurbished 'Carriages' restaurant conveniently situated on the ground floor. All rooms are en suite with emergency call buttons, tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryer, towels, TV and WIFI.

Bridge House has its own dedicated Therapy Room where reflexology, mindfulness, massage and various other treatments are available from our visiting wellbeing therapists – booking is advised and costs apply. We also have our own mini bus and driver providing a variety of day trips around the area for a small additional charge (our mini bus can be adapted to take a wheelchair/electric scooter).

Bridge House has a fascinating history. It is said that Dickens wrote part of Nicholas Nickleby while staying here and Edward VII visited with his mistress Lily Langtry. In fact her ghost is reputed to have been seen on the upper floors (by men only!). The distinctive white house dates back to 1793 and enjoys a quiet, peaceful setting. An added attraction is the trout stream which runs through the grounds into Dawlish Water, with its famous black swans.
